The Music

Like I said before, it's mostly country. I've played a lot of different styles in my life (I've been around for a while and ain't quite as young as I used to be) but country is hands down about the hardest thing to do right I've ever tried. So as a musician, it's challenging to say the least. Of course it doesn't hurt that I also like it. (Remember, we're talkin about Country here, not that "barnyard filler" that you hear on the pop radio stations.) Besides that, you can usually hear the words, and if you don't want to be heard, why are you singin at all?

So, while we're talkin music and exactly what kind(s) I play, I guess I'll try to break it down a bit:

  • Country- Yeah buddy!

Okay, my favorites tend to be the older stuff. A lot you're (probably) familiar with. Lefty Frizzell, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Johnny Cash, Ray Price, etc. Hey, we even go as far back as Jimmie Rodgers, and Gene Autrey among others! But there's lots more that you may not think of immediately. How many folks remember Dave Dudley, Vernon Oxford, or Harold Laudermilk? We do...

  • Rock- Ah, my misspent youth.

Here's where it gets a little weird by other peoples standards. Seein as how we're just as likely to be performing in an acoustic format as an electric one, these ain't gonna sound quite like the record sometimes. But then again, we don't try to play the country stuff "just like the record" either. If you wanna hear the record, go out and buy the record. So that bein said, we draw from sources like Lynard Skynard, ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, Dave Mason, Johnny Rivers, and even Ricky Nelson among others for this genre.

  • Miscellaneous - I just didn't know what else to call this category.

This one goes from Marvin Gaye, to Elvis Costello, to Muddy Waters, to...

  • Originals - You didn't think we recorded covers did ya?

Yeah, we've got a couple of CD's out, and material for a couple more "in the can", but some of the songs in this category are from people that you probably haven't heard of. Yet. Personally, I think that Larry Parcell is one of the most gifted "unknown" writers around these days, and am happy to do more than a few of his songs. We're also covering material by Grady Lee, "Cuzin Sue Bob" Jackson, Brian Relleva, and few others.
